FF backbenchers forming new group 'to get voices heard'
A group of Fianna Fáil backbenchers is reportedly forming a new committee in an effort to get their opinions heard ahead of the next general election.
Reports this morning said 16 backbenchers had already signed a letter supporting the establishment of the committee and others are being urged to come on board.
The reports said negotiations on the matter had been on-going for weeks among a group of "disgruntled" TDs without the knowledge of the Taoiseach.
However, Dublin North TD Jim Glennon, who is one of those to have signed the letter, said the reports were misleading and there was nothing sinister involved in the move.
"There's no question of a dissident group," he said. "It's a highly unfortunate spin that's put on it. This is a group of backbenchers anxious to make every possible contribution towards the election effort."
