HSE accused of ageism in treatment of Dublin GP

The Labour Party has accused the Health Service Executive of ageism in its treatment of a 70-year-old Dublin-based GP.

Patricia Comer has been running a general practice on Haddington Road for the last 40 years.

The HSE has informed her that, while she is free to continue her practice, she will have to retire from treating medical card-holders due to her age.

Labour Councillor Kevin Humphries has described the move as disgraceful.

He said Dr Comer was providing an excellent service and the HSE's move would disadvantage local people who have been patients of hers for more than 30 years.
