Man knocked down, killed in Offaly

A man in his mid-40s has died after he was knocked down by a car in Co Offaly in the early hours of this morning.

The accident happened in the Frankfort area, near Birr, just after 1am.

No further details are available and the dead man's name is being withheld until all next of kin are informed.

Meanwhile, one person is fighting for life after a two-car crash in Co Tipperary yesterday.

Six people were injured during the head-on collision on the road between Cashel and Horse-and-Jockey.

The victims have been transferred to hospitals in Cork, Dublin and Waterford.
