Cullen to unveil plans to regulate driving instructors
Driving instructors are to be regulated under a new government initiative due to be unveiled by the Minister for Transport today.
The new measures will include minimum standards to ensure driving instructors are up to speed with the rules of the road.
Driving expert Rosemary Smith has welcomed the move, saying Irish instructors are often inexperienced and lacking in the skills needed to impart knowledge to young people.
"It should have been done years ago," she says. "There is no real control over anyone wanting to become a driving instructor."
