Fathers’ rights group mounts protest outside Four Courts

The Unmarried and Separated Fathers of Ireland group is protesting outside the Four Courts in Dublin today to raise awareness of its ongoing campaign for reform of family law.

The protest is taking place ahead of Father's Day on Sunday.

Those involved say many dads will not be able to see their kids this weekend due to the lack of fairness in the way the courts deal with custody battles following the break-up of relationships.

The Unmarried and Separated Fathers of Ireland are seeking a meeting with Minister for Justice Michael McDowell to talk about equal guardianship and parental rights.

Spokesman Ray Kelly says the minister promised to meet them earlier this year, but has so far failed to honour this promise.
