Ruling may see thousands of drink-driving cases dismissed
A judge at Cork District Court is reportedly due to issue a ruling today that could see thousands of drink-driving cases being struck out across the country.
Reports this morning said Judge Con O'Leary was due to outline the legal reasons for his plan to dismiss 300 cases involving intoxyliser breath tests.
The cases have reportedly been in the judicial system for three years or more due to legal challenges to the use of the intoxyliser machine.
This morning's reports said Judge O'Leary's ruling today would be adopted by district court judges across the country and could affect up to 5,000 drink-driving prosecutions.
