Former Taoiseach Charles Haughey is reportedly very seriously ill.

Reports this morning said the 80-year-old's family were keeping a bedside vigil at his Abbeville mansion in north Dublin following a deterioration in his health over the weekend.

Mr Haughey, who suffers from prostate cancer and a heart condition, has been taken ill on several occasions in recent years, but has recovered each time.

However, this morning's reports said family and friends believed he would not survive his latest illness.

The reports said arrangements were already being made for a state funeral. Mr Haughey has previously requested a Requiem Mass at Our Lady of Consolation Church in Donnycarney.

He has also reportedly chosen to be buried at St Fintan's churchyard in Sutton.
