Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to an incident in Dublin last night which left a fireman with serious injuries to his face.

The attack happened in the Fairview area about 11.15pm.

The fireman was a passenger in a fire engine which was heading north, close to the Old Fairview cinema, when he was struck by a missile thrown into the path of the vehicle.

Gardaí say there were a lot of people about following the Robbie Williams concert in Croke Park and they believe some of them queuing at a bus stop outside an auctioneer’s may have seen what happened.

They are appealing for witnesses to contact Clontarf garda station on 01 666 4800 or any Garda station.
