Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal Noel Ahern has today approved the €2.1m acquisition of an Ennis Town Centre property for transitional housing for the homeless.

St Vincent de Paul will manage the facility in conjunction with Clare County Council, Ennis Town Council, the Health Services Executive and the Clare Homeless Forum.

The absence of emergency accommodation has been a major deficiency in meeting the needs of homeless persons in County Clare over the past number of years,” said chairperson of the Homeless Forum, Cllr Joe Arkins.

“The acquisition of the town centre property will provide an opportunity to focus services and supports in a real and targeted way to meet the needs of the homeless persons.”
