Two men arrested in Athlone as part of Operation Anvil

Gardaí in Athlone have arrested two men this morning in connection with an investigation into the activity of armed criminals in the midlands.

The pair, who are in their 20s and 30s, were detained in Baylough at around midday by officers involved in Operation Anvil.

A sawn-off shotgun was also recovered at the scene.
