130 more public bodies come within scope of FoI Act
One hundred and thirty more public bodies are coming under the remit of the Freedom of Information Act this week.
The new bodies include the Irish Medical Council, the Office of Tobacco Control, the nursing body An Bord Altranais, the Radiological Protection Institute, the Royal College of Surgeons and the National University of Ireland.
However, they do not include organisations like the Garda Siochana, the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner and the Residential Institutions Redress Board.
Information Commissioner Emily O'Reilly had called for these bodies to be brought within the scope of the FoI Act in her most recent annual report.
