Gardaí to give evidence on 1973 baby stabbing
An inquest into the death of a baby girl found stabbed in a lane in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin in 1973 will today hear from gardaí on the progress of the investigation.
The case was adjourned last February as gardaí were awaiting a decision from the Director of Public Prosecutions on the investigation file.
On the last sitting, Dublin County Coroner Kieran Geraghty said an exhumation of the baby’s body may have to be considered.
The unidentified infant was buried in the communal Little Angels’ plot of Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin in the 1970s.
More than 30 years after the death the inquest was reopened due to representations from a woman, Cynthia Owen, who came forward claiming to be the mother.
She has claimed the baby was one of two children she gave birth to as a result of sexual abuse in the 1970s.
