Man drowns in River Moy

Gardaí in Mayo are investigating a drowning in the river Moy this morning.

A passer-by alerted the emergency services after seeing two men going into the river just before 4am.

Gardaí, the Malin Head Coast Guard and local divers rushed to the scene.

They managed to rescue one of the men but a 24-year-old man was pronounced dead.

His body was removed to Castlebar Hospital, and a post mortem will be carried out later today.
