Govt accused of failing to protect children’s rights

The Children's Rights Alliance has accused the Government of failing to honour the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child.

In a report published today, the organisation criticises what is says are major shortcomings in the area of child protection and the treatment of children from ethnic and under-privileged backgrounds.

The study, which is due to be presented to the UN in Geneva next week, recommends constitutional change to ensure children's rights are given express recognition.
