Mother 'heartbroken' at murderer sentence

The mother of a 16-year-old girl murdered by a teenager has spoken out against his 15-year sentence.

The mother of a 16-year-old girl murdered by a teenager has spoken out against his 15-year sentence.

Megan McAlorum was abducted and murdered by 16-year-old Thomas Purcell in Belfast two years ago.

Purcell pleaded guilty at his trial and was sentenced to life with a minimum of tariff, and Megan's mother, Margaret, said it wasn't nearly enough.

She said the decision has left her and her family “heartbroken and sick”.
