Gardaí investigating letter sent to taxi drivers in Kerry hoax

Taxi drivers have fallen victim to a hoax claiming they would have to paint their vehicles emerald green as part of new regulations.

Taxi drivers have fallen victim to a hoax claiming they would have to paint their vehicles emerald green as part of new regulations.

At least 11 drivers in Kerry received letters, claiming to be from the Commission for Taxi Regulation, stating that taxis would have to be colour-coordinated.

The commission has said the forgery is an orchestrated attempt to create tension in advance of planned strike action by taxi drivers this weekend.

Taxi Regulator Ger Deering says gardaí are investigating.

“I take a very serious view of this letter,” he said today.

“It’s very clever and very craftily worded and very worrying because the addresses are correct, our logos are on it and it has forged the signature of our director of operations.”
