FÁS workers to vote on new decentralisation proposals
FÁS workers in Dublin are due to vote today on proposals aimed at ending their dispute over decentralisation.
The employees have been engaged in a campaign of protest for several weeks to highlight opposition to the Government's plans to move 400 FAS staff to Birr, Co Offaly.
They were particularly angered by the fact that promotions were being limited to people who were willing to relocate, which they said breached the voluntary nature of decentralisation.
Last week, the Labour Relations Commission issued recommendations calling for this restriction on promotions to be dropped before decentralisation goes ahead at FAS.
SIPTU is recommending that the employment agency's workers accept the proposal.
