Divers search canal for security van boxes
Garda divers were today preparing to search a section of the Grand Canal in Dublin as part of the investigation into a security van robbery.
Witnesses reported men throwing strongboxes into the canal near Hanover Quay, shortly after a security van was held up at 1.50pm at Macken Street in Dublin city centre.
A Garda spokeswoman said the water unit were on their way to the scene.
The security van robbery was carried out by three raiders, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
The men took two strongboxes, whose contents are unknown, and fled the scene.
No shots were fired and no-one was injured.
Gardaí from Pearse Street are carrying out the investigation into the robbery.
