FÁS staff mount one-day stoppage over decentralisation

Staff at FÁS head offices in Dublin are holding a one-day strike today as part of their on-going campaign of opposition to the decentralisation scheme.

The stoppage is taking place despite talks on the matter at the Labour Relations Commission last night.

The discussions are due to resume later today.

The Government wants to move 400 FÁS staff to Birr, Co Offaly, as part of the decentralisation programme.

However, SIPTU says very few FÁS workers are interested in the move.

It has also accused the agency and the Government of breaching the voluntary nature of decentralisation by limiting promotions to people who are willing to relocate.
