Heritage body seeks urgent steps to protect biodiversity

The Heritage Council is calling on the Government to take urgent steps to protect Ireland's biodiversity.

The council says more than 29 species of birds, including the barn owl and the corncrake, are under serious threat because of the rapid decline of habitats in the past 30 years

It says €20m is needed to fund a biodiversity plan to help restore the habitats of threatened species.
