McGuinness: Politicians should stand together

Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness says that unless politicians agree to work together in the North there will be more sectarian murders like that of Michael McIlveen in Ballymena.

Mr McGuinness attended the funeral of the 15-year-old Catholic schoolboy yesterday.

He welcomed Ian Paisley's visit to the McIlveen family but said the unionist leader needed to do more.

“It is all very well Mr Paisley going to visit the McIlveen family in Ballymena, and naturally I welcome that and I was encouraged by that development,” Mr McGuinness said today.

“What really needs to happen here, if we're to avoid a further Michael McIlveen type tragedy, is for politicians to stand together,” he added.

“What better example can we give to our young people?”
