Fathers’ group slams proposed new child support laws
A fathers' rights group has criticised proposed new legislation that would see absent fathers have money taken from their wages to pay child support.
The proposed new laws also extend to fathers claiming the dole, who would have to give up a nominal amount of their income.
The Unmarried Fathers of Ireland group has described the measure as another attempt to demonise male parents.
Spokesman Ray Kelly said many fathers were being forced to pay maintenance after being denied access to their children.
"The Government is making us responsible for our children, but with responsibilities come rights and we want our rights to be guardians to our children," he said.
