FG looking to attach accountability to government spending
Fine Gael says it will bring about greater transparency and accountability in the way public money is spent if it is returned to Government at the next election.
The party says performance-related programmes will be introduced to ensure that civil servants and Ministers reach their targets.
Finanace spokesperson Richard Bruton has told the Fine Gael Ard Fheis in Dublin that the days of public money being wasted without somebody taking responsibility have to end:
He vowed to establish a strategic reform fund to make the strategic shifts to address new priorities “across the silos of government departments that have constrained the reform we need to make.”
“We will put in early warning systems”, he added, “with green, amber and red signals on projects to ensure that no projects go off the rail without somebody being pinned with the responsibility.”
