Dublin Council to extend planned city-centre truck ban

Dublin City Council is reportedly planning to extend the area off limits to trucks following the opening of the Dublin Port Tunnel.

The council was initially planning to ban trucks from the city-centre area between the Grand and Royal canals between 7am and 7pm.

However, reports this morning said the council now wants the cordon extended to include parts of the Navan Road, Phibsboro, Drumcondra and the north inner city.

The ban will apply to heavy goods vehicles with five or more axles from January 1 next. It will not apply to four-axle trucks until the completion of the planned upgrade of the M50 motorway.
