McDowell announces plans for new prison on Spike Island

Minister for Justice Michael McDowell has announced plans to build a new prison on Spike Island in Cork Harbour.

Mr McDowell said the €70m facility would replace Cork Prison and would hold a total of 450 inmates in separate sections for men, women and young offenders.
