Some 1,400 delegates from 530 credit unions throughout Ireland will meet today to discuss the development of the movement in the country.

The event takes place against the backdrop of the most successful year ever for Irish credit unions, with savings at an all-time high of €12.6bn.

Delegates from north and south of the border will attend the Consultative General Meeting of the Irish League of Credit Unions today and tomorrow, where they are expected to consider how they can better serve their members and communities.

Minister for Finance Brian Cowen will be among the guests in the City West Conference Centre, Saggart, Co. Dublin.
