Port Tunnel trucks to be exempt from East-Link toll

Dublin City Council has reportedly agreed to allow trucks to use the East-Link toll bridge free of charge once the Dublin Port Tunnel opens next month.

Hauliers had been complaining that trucks using the south port would be at a disadvantage as they would have to pay the toll in order to access the tunnel, whose entrance is north of the Liffey.

However, reports this morning said the council had now agreed that truckers would not have to pay the €4.80 toll.

Businesses based in the south port and the employers' body IBEC were both reportedly considering legal action if trucks were forced to continue paying the toll when the tunnel opens and they are banned from the streets of the city centre.
