Man who retrieved Lotto ticket from bin claims prize

An Offalyman who had to retrieve a winning Lotto ticket from the bin collected his winnings from the National Lottery offices last week, it emerged this afternoon.

The man, who wants to keep his windfall private, collected €200,000 for his LottoPlus2 win on Wednesday of last week.

He had crumpled up the ticket and thrown it in the bin after checking some old tickets in the shop.

He realised that he had thrown away a new ticket, rescued it and it turned out to be a winner.
