Four-year-old hit by bus at O’Connell St crossing
A four-year-old boy was hospitalised last night after he was struck by a bus at the same pedestrian crossing on Dublin's O'Connell Street where a woman died in a similar accident last year.
The child apparently ran onto the street and collided with the side of a bus heading northwards, but his injuries are not believed to be serious.
Last September, a 60-year-old English woman died after she was struck by a bus at the same pedestrian crossing.
That accident prompted an investigation by Dublin City Council into the design of the crossing, where the footpath and road surface are on the same level and difficult to distinguish from one another.
The council subsequently put down new markings in an effort to make the edge of the footpath more easily identifiable.
