Peace body slams 'spineless' Government

The Government is accused of being spineless for reportedly allowing Russia to use Shannon Airport to export military helicopters.

The Government is accused of being spineless for reportedly allowing Russia to use Shannon Airport to export military helicopters.

It is being reported today that a Russian plane landed at Shannon in February with a cargo of Russian-made MI-17 helicopters bound for Venezuela.

A Government statement said that aircraft making technical stops do not need authorisation.

Edward Horgan of the Peace and Neutrality Alliance said the Government should be held accountable for its actions.

"International law, the United Nations Charter, is being grossly breached. I think the Irish Government is spineless. It has lied repeatedly. I think the Irish people have not done nearly enough to hold the Government to account."
