An ageing, affluent and educated population is driving up health insurance payouts, Vhi Healthcare said today.

Vhi Healthcare processes an average of 14,000 claims per week, or about 500,000 per year and estimated today that, by the end of 2007, Vhi payouts will exceed €1bn.
