Calls to bird flu helpline up 60% in past 24 hours
Calls to the special bird flu helpline set up by the Government have jumped significantly in the past 24 hours, according to Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan.
The phoneline was established earlier this year to allow members of the public to report unusual deaths among wild birds.
Ms Coughlan said today that the number of calls being received increased by around 60% overnight following confirmation yesterday that the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu has now arrived in Scotland.
The helpline can be reached on 01 607 2512.
