Moneypoint workers to protest in support of Polish workers

ESB workers at the Moneypoint power plant in Co Clare have decided to stage a public demonstration tomorrow morning in support of a number of sacked Polish workers.

The row erupted after a contractor on the site ZRE Katowicz sacked a Polish shop steward and several other workers following allegations that workers had been underpaid by the company.

The TEEU has already balloted in favour of industrial action.

Minister for Labour Affairs Tony Killeen has voiced surprise at ZRE’s decision to terminate the contract of some of its workers and has urged all side to negotiate a settlement through the Labour Relations Commission.
