A US-bound jet forced to make an emergency landing at Shannon on Sunday has departed from the Co Clare airport.

A US-bound jet forced to make an emergency landing at Shannon on Sunday has departed from the Co Clare airport.

The Continental airlines flight was forced to return to the airport after crew detected smoke in the cabin.

It was reported that a minor technical fault was the cause of the problem.

A total of 172 passengers and crew was accommodated at local hotels on Sunday night before they were placed on different flights yesterday afternoon.
