British oil tanker towed to safety after engine failure

An oil tanker that got into difficulty off the coast of Wexford yesterday evening docked safely in Waterford this afternoon.

An oil tanker that got into difficulty off the coast of Wexford yesterday evening docked safely in Waterford this afternoon.

The ‘Breaksea’ – which is carrying 1,500 tonnes of mixed oil products - went adrift in rough seas near the Tuscar Rock Lighthouse after its engines failed.

The British-registered ship was towed to safety by naval vessel the LE Aoife and two tug boats, assisted by lifeboats from Rosslare and Kilmore Quay.
