The Irish naval vessel the LE Aoife has left port to assist a British-registered oil tanker, which is reported to be in trouble off the south-east coast.

The Breaksea is believed to be adrift off the south Wexford coast.

It is understood to have developed technical problems causing the engines to fail.

Earlier, a French fishing boat, which ran aground off the Kerry coast, was refloated and towed to safety after running aground in Dingle Harbour this morning.
