Campaigners protesting against the Shell gas pipeline in Co Mayo failed to disrupt today's Fianna Fáil selection convention in Castlebar.

Campaigners protesting against the Shell gas pipeline in Co Mayo failed to disrupt today's Fianna Fáil selection convention in Castlebar.

Sitting TD John Carty will be one of the party's candidates in the next general election. He will be joined on the party ticket by Dara Colleary, son of former minister Sean, and by county councillor Frank Chambers, who is also a former senator.

Almost 30 delegates from Foxford staged a walk-out at one point because they felt they should have had their own vote.
