Govt accused of breaking promise to pursue drug firms
The Irish Haemophilia Society (IHS) is reportedly accusing the Government of failing to pursue pharmaceutical firms that sold contaminated products to the Irish Blood Transfusion Service.
Hundreds of Irish women were infected with Hepatitis C as a result of the contaminated anti-D blood products supplied by mainly US companies.
The Government promised a number of years ago to investigate the possibility of pursuing these companies for compensation.
However, reports this morning said the IHS was now accusing the Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition of failing to deliver on the promise.
Officials from the Department of Health are reportedly due to meet an IHS delegation later today to discuss the matter.
