FÁS workers to begin strike ballot over decentralisation

SIPTU members working for FÁS are due to begin voting this evening on whether to mount strike action over the decentralisation of their jobs.

The positions are due to be moved from Dublin to Birr, Co Offaly, as part of the Government's decentralisation plans.

However, only 51 of the 400 staff have applied for the transfer and SIPTU is accusing FÁS of limiting recruitment and promotional opportunities to workers who are willing to move to Birr.
