Teachers welcome new measures to deal with indiscipline

Secondary school teachers have welcomed Education Minister Mary Hanifin’s blueprint for dealing with disruptive pupils in classrooms around the country.

Secondary school teachers have welcomed Education Minister Mary Hanifin’s blueprint for dealing with disruptive pupils in classrooms around the country.

Minister Hanafin wants the law on expulsions changed to protect the right of the well-behaved majority to learn.

She also plans to send support teams to schools from next September to help them deal with indiscipline.

John White of the ASTI union said the wide-ranging package could make a big difference, but that teachers would need much more money to implement it than the €2m allocated so far.
