Elderly fisherman rescued from Galway's Lough Corrib
An elderly fisherman has been rescued from Lough Corrib in Galway after his boat suffered engine failure in freezing temperatures last night.
The alarm was raised at nightfall when the 75-year-old angler failed to return to his home in Oughterard following a fishing trip on the lake.
There was fear for the man's safety as the temperature on the lake dropped to below freezing.
A search was launched and the Shannon-based marine helicopter picked up the movements of the pensioner and rescued him within minutes.
