Internet firms report upsurge in child porn complaints
The body representing Internet suppliers in Ireland has reported a massive increase in the amount of child pornography being reported to it by Irish people.
The Internet Service Providers Association said it had received 5,102 reports of child pornography in the 30 months to the end of December of last year, compared to 1,792 in the previous 24-month period.
It also said the severity of the material being reported had gotten worse since its last report in 2003.
The ISPA said 54% of complainants had encountered child pornography via spam emails, while 41% had encountered it while surfing the net.
