€11m allocated for educational grants to victims of institutional abuse

The Government announced funding of €11m this afternoon to provide education grants to former residents of institutions and their families.

The Government announced funding of €11m this afternoon to provide education grants to former residents of institutions and their families.

Many former residents of industrial schools and other institutions have complained that they were denied educational opportunities in the past.

The money will be administered by a new statutory body, the Education Finance Board.

It's to be chaired by Richard Langford, and has eight members including four former residents.
