CAB swoop on Cork drug dealing operation

A series of early morning arrests were made today as part of an investigation into money-laundering by Cork drug-dealers.

In a joint operation between the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) and the Cork City Drug Squad, two men were arrested in Cork.

A third man was later arrested in Killarney, County Kerry.

Officers swooped on a house in Glanmire after midnight and seized a substantial amount of cash. A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of money-laundering.

He was taken to Mayfield garda station and is being questioned under drug trafficking legislation.

In a follow-up search, a man was arrested in a house on Wolfe Tone Street, off Cathedral Road, at 2am. He was taken to Gurranabraher garda station where he was also being questioned today.

The operation then moved to Killarney where a man in his 30s was arrested at 10am. During a search here, €40,000 worth of amphetamines were seized. It is believed they were destined for the Cork market.

The arrested man was also taken to Gurranabraher garda station for questioning. Under drug trafficking legislation all three can be held for up to seven days.

Cork City Drug Squad Chief, Detective Inspector Tom Myers, said the drug squad were very pleased with the operation.

He said: “This is a big result for us. It is part of an ongoing investigation by CAB officers and the city drug squad.”
