Fatal Dublin shooting: Two still in custody

Gardaí in Dublin are continuing to question two people today in connection with the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man in the west of the city over the weekend.

Darragh McCormack died in hospital after he was shot in the back near his home in the Whitestown Park area of Blanchardstown shortly after 9.30pm on Saturday night.

A man and woman were arrested in connection with the killing yesterday and remain in garda custody this morning.

Detectives investigating the case have yet to establish a motive, but Mr McCormack had recently been attacked by a gang armed with machetes and gardaí believe he probably knew his killers.

Meanwhile, a post mortem is due to be carried out today on the body of a 60-year-old father-of-five who was shot dead in Co Cork in the early hours of yesterday morning.

John Mason, a former international boxing referee who was well-known in boxing circles, died after he was shot a number of times near his home in Fermoy while returning from the pub.
