Fishing protests 'won't disrupt traffic'

Fishing organisations attempted reassure motorists this afternoon after fears were raised that their protests would disrupt rush-hour traffic.

Hundreds of vessels are docked at the country's four main ports for the protest.

They are demanding that the Government decriminalise fishing offences, as in most other European countries.

A protest organiser in Dublin said they would not be seeking to have the Eastlink toll bridge raised until after rush hour.

The ships will leave Sir John Rogerson’s Quay between 8pm and 1am tonight, necessitating the raising of the bridge several times over that period.
