The National Roads Authority last night announced that it plans to introduce barrier-free tolling on the road.

Talks have been ongoing between the NRA and National Toll Roads with a view to removing the barriers, and last night the NRA announced that those discussions had been terminated.

The NRA will now be tendering for another company to operate the system, and it is understood that NTR is to receive a multi-million euro compensation deal.

The Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen has welcomed the development, describing it as very positive for road users.
