Man killed in tractor crash

A man in his 60s died today following a road accident in Co Westmeath.

The man was driving a tractor which collided with a van near Ballinalack at around 3.30pm yesterday.

He was taken to Mullingar General Hospital where he died in the early hours of this morning.

The man was the 21st person to die on the country’s roads so far this year. In 2006 a total of 399 people died in road accidents, the most deaths since 2001.
