Elderly man's body found in canal
The body of an elderly man was discovered in the Grand Canal in Dublin today, gardaí have confirmed.
Emergency services were alerted after the man was spotted in the water at Portobello shortly before 9am.
A garda spokesman said: “We believe we know who he is. We are working on an identity. There is nothing suspicious in the death, and no foul play is suspected.”
Gardaí erected a tent around the body after it was removed from the Grand Canal. The State Pathologist’s Office was informed for a post mortem exam to be carried out.
