Shaw reveals reasons for resignation as NSC chief
The former chairman of the National Safety Council, Eddie Shaw has blamed the Minister for Transport for bringing about his resignation last November.
The former NSC chief said he took serious issue with Martin Cullen, who claimed that he had overstated the Government's failure to tackle the rising level of road carnage.
Mr Shaw however, said he resigned to accept responsibility for failing to convince the government to invest in its own policy on road safety.
He also accused the Government of being criminally negligent over its lack of implementation on policy.
Mr Shaw cited the publication of a private email to the Department of Transport in a Sunday newspaper as being the last straw.
He concluded with an observation, suggesting that the impetus on road safety was lost when Martin Cullen took over the Transport portfolio.
